Friends,

Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20

Are you singing?  Despite it being a Monday?

I hope you are because today is the day to let some of your doubts wash away and that is worth singing about!

I had a great conversation yesterday with someone who reminded me that as important as it is to wash in and remind ourselves of God's grace, it's just as important to let that make a difference in our daily lives.  It's where the rubber meets the road in our faith lives.

I shared with our community this weekend the story of Thomas doubting Jesus' resurrection (John 20:19-29) because he couldn't see him...touch him...so he didn't believe it happened.  But Jesus kept showing up in Thomas' story...and our stories...so the doubts will wash away and we can believe this crazy-great news!

So will you let your doubts actually wash away today?  Not just the intellectual/informational kind of doubts, but the action oriented ones?  The ones that affect our behaviors and relationships are the toughest doubts of them all.

Doubting God's love and hope can lead us toward self medicating through our pains or running from them, instead of sharing our prayers and hurts with a listening and answering God.

Doubting God's guidance and leadership can move us toward picking our own path and doing the things that we want to do, instead of following God's loving call for us to impact the world.

Doubting God's presence with us can lead us toward fears and anxieties we don't need to have, instead of sensing the Holy Spirit right next to us.

Doubting can move the rubber from hitting the road and drive our cars right off into a ditch!

So let God's grace be action for you today.  Trust a bit more in a Risen Savior.  Hope a bit more for a pure love which is standing right beside you.  Forgive a bit more because you have already been forgiven.  Love a bit more because of Easter!

And then sing.  Even on a Monday!

Lord, help your grace in my life turn into action today.  Amen

Still in One Peace,
ps

(Editor's Note:  Steve will be on the road for awhile through the remainder of April at some conferences and a "Mantrip" with his son Drew.  He'll be writing again in the end of April.  So until then, go Sabres!)

Friends,

Are you living an amazed life this week?

Easter Sunday I challenged people in worship to really live out an amazed life...to believe that our eternal life was taken care of because of a cross and empty tomb...and now we, like Peter who saw the empty tomb, went home and was amazed...we have the opportunity to do the same.  So are you?  Are you seeing in your life that because of Easter the blessings around you can be enjoyed even more fully?

It's a hard transition to make...looking for life, rather than death.  Sometimes we slip into "Good Friday Thinking"...that's a diagnosis in the DSM-IV (big mental health book) that applies when we "think the worst and refuse to see the resurrection moments in our lives." (Believe it or not, that's not an "actual" diagnosis)

When a bunch of ladies went to the tomb that first Easter morning, the didn't find Jesus' body and instead a couple "angel-dudes" said "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? Jesus is not here, but has risen." (Luke 24:5)

We slip into GFT (Good Friday Thinking) when we approach something and almost expect death rather than the potential of life.  The women went looking for death, even though Jesus had been telling them: "Yo...I'm going to beat this thing.  Death will not win.  Stay tuned and don't pause the DVR too early, but record the whole series, with extra time...cause I will conquer this death!" (OK, believe it or not, that's not an actual quote from Jesus...but you get my point)

What will you approach today?  Will you approach with amazement?  Or will you approach with a bad case of GFT?

That relationship in your family that is strained...approach with the potential for amazement or GFT?

That job transition...approach with the potential for amazement or GFT?

That new opportunity that God is calling you to...approach with the potential for amazement or GFT?

That healing that is beginning to rise from grief...approach with the potential for amazement or GFT?

Stop looking for the dead my friends.  Jesus has already beaten it back.  Look through the eyes of the "angel-dudes"...eyes that Jesus has invited us to see our lives with today...and everyday...eyes that show life...even in what looks like death...

living an amazed life.

Lord, amaze me today.  Amen

Still in One Peace,
ps
