Our call is to serve the world and be the hands and feet of Jesus. We heal because Jesus healed. We love because Jesus loved. We serve because Jesus served. If not us, who? If not now, when?
There are many ways to serve through Zion's ministry. Some are ongoing and some come out of needs that arise in the community. You are welcome to join in on any or all of the Outreach Ministries at Zion Lutheran Church:
Habitat for Humanity - A group of men and women, young and old, go each second Saturday to serve with the Habitat for Humanity International home building program. This group is for both high skilled builders and non-skilled helpers. All talents and gifts can be used!
Food Pantry - We support an emergency food pantry at a Lutheran Church on the East Side of Buffalo. We encourage people to bring non-perishable food items into worship each week. Volunteers are always needed to take the food over to the food pantry.
Resurrection Health Center - Resurrection Lutheran Church began a free health clinic on Wednesday evenings to meet the needs of the residents of the East Side community. We support the health clinic financially, prayerfully and with ongoing needs, such as doing indoor construction work to make room for offices and patient care areas.
Mission Trips - Periodic mission trips take place to meet the needs locally, nationally and in our newest venture, globally. Zion's mission teams have served from Buffalo to Chicago to the Gulf Coast.
Angel Tree and Holiday Meals - Each year, Zion's Outreach Ministry adopts several community families for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to provide gifts and meals.
Angel Food and Funeral Meals - We do a lot of outreach through food! Angel Food Ministry provides meals for those who are shut-in, have experienced trauma in their family or are dealing with health concerns. The Funeral Lunch Team provides meals for families after funerals so that families don't have to worry about those details and can stay at the church to heal, grieve, laugh and of course...eat!
Lutheran Charities - Through our Lutheran Charities agency, Zion supports 11 social ministry agencies around Western New York that range from counseling agencies, to our camp on Chautauqua Lake to a job placement service.
